Why AI May Not Be Ready to Write Your Lesson Plans AI struggles to craft engaging lessons that make good use of technology and activate students’ critical thinking skills, researchers found.

Researchers used various prompts to get 3 AI programs to generate hundreds of lesson plans & thousands of activities for 8th-grade social studies. Result: Most resembled old-fashioned textbook teaching and were focused on getting students just to memorize facts rather than analyze: is.gd/jyfH08

My 2-year-old was in an ICE detention facility when she turned to me gravely and asked "Daddy, why am I being deported to Honduras?" And when I told her "Because due process is too woke," she started crying.

Every time I look at the WWWY lineup I get more excited. I really wish The Dirty Nil was going to be there, though.

Day 11. I am excited about so much. I am starting an anthropological research of β€œThe Village” in January, a study on high school government, a study on a new 6th grade civics political friendship focused curriculum, sitting on two panels, presenting at IALS, and teaching my first college class!

Day 9. My first journal publication on individualized teacher evaluation. Not really my research interest but it was a solid article coauthored with our principal and two head teachers from England. Most collaboration was through zoom. I was fortunate enough to visit the English school.

Day 6. I laughed when our conference was over. It was a relief. As amazing as hosting an international conference was (it was extremely successful) I was laughing in relief after it was over. I can’t wait to attend as a presenter in the spring. If anyone is in RI and wants to chat - let me know.

Day 5. I want other people to know that critical pedagogy is possible on an individual and systemic level. And those actionable changes are necessary for the betterment of society (local and global) and could have a ripple effect on broader societal structures. Words are powerful. Actions are too.

I’m going to attempt to catch up. My best conference experience was hosting the international association of laboratory schools (IALS) conference. So thankful for our team who put it together and students who played a critical role in the success of the conference.

"Phrases such as 'higher achievement,' 'positive outcomes,' and 'better results' typically refer only to standardized test scores. These are poor indicators of intellectual proficiency and primarily measure either socioeconomic status or the extent of students' training in test-taking skills."

This year I really valued my time developing a better understanding of my opportunities for research. Each day I appreciate the laboratory school environment more and I am forget grateful for a position that allows me to research and lead change in a public school. #ResearchAdvent

Day 2. I am doing this because I want to change education to a dynamic existence. I want it to mean something more than just facts and information. I want to know can these theories of change work. As my hero Michael Apple asks, can education change society? #ResearchAdvent
