These terms have largely been replaced. Saying “used to use” as is apt. We used to use maiden regularly. Some still use it, but it’s not common. See the difference?

We used to use “janitor” now it’s “custodian.” “Secretary” is now “receptionist.” “Stewardess” became “flight attendant.” Are you principled on those because some of the elderly still use them? Your “principled” take seems like you making excuses to continue using a single word. It’s… a stretch.

Words & language are ever evolving. Feeble & hysterical could also be included. How many words must be “agreed upon” and by what % of people before you update your language? Because the R word is pretty well agreed upon at this point: It’s offensive, unnecessary, lazy, lacks imagination. Why use it?

Honest question…. To me it’s a matter of impact on others. If a trans person asks you not to dead name or use their old pronouns, is that different than a person with Downs Syndrome asking you not to use the term retard in a derogatory way? Is it worth hurting innocents to hang on to that principle?

While I agree with the sentiment, there are plenty of things he could be called without using a slur.

“There have been no deaths shown to be related to the MMR vaccine in healthy people.” But measles killed 400-500 people per year in the US prior to the vaccine. The science is exhaustive and well studied. RFK Jr. is a bigger danger than vaccines.
