Did Charlie Kirk say one word about Melissa Hortman? Did he not treat the attack on Paul Pelosi as comedic fodder?

We can agree that he didn’t deserve to be killed, but that doesn’t change the fact that he made his fame and fortune sowing hate and division.

Judging by the shamefully opportunistic & politicizing rhetoric of some rightwingers on Twitter, & their cynical use of Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder for political point scoring, it’s almost as if Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman wasn’t murdered by a Trump-voting MAGA maniac just 12 weeks ago.

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah took down X posts Tuesday making an apparent connection between Gov. Tim Walz and the man accused of shooting two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses, and blaming “Marxists” for the murders. The change comes after blowback from Sen. Tina Smith and her staffers as well as Minnesota Democratic and Republican lawmakers. One X post said “Nightmare on Waltz Street,” with pictures of Boelter, who is accused of killing Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and shooting Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in the early morning hours of June 14. Boelter also went to the homes of two other state lawmakers that night; one house was empty, and at the other, a police officer pulled up to the house shortly after Boelter arrived, so Boelter left. Another Lee post read, “This is what happens When Marxists don’t get their way,” with a picture of Boelter.

No elected official Democratic party will be as cruel about Kirk's death as Mike Lee was about the death of Melissa Hortman.

Where was Charlie Kirk’s condemnation of political violence when Melissa Hartman was killed?

When a right-wing man murdered Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota, progressives asked MAGA to tone down the rhetoric to prevent more violence. Within hours of Kirk’s murder, motive still unknown, the right is demanding that the government wage a campaign of violence against their enemies.

It’s worth pointing out they don’t even have a suspect in custody yet.

And while I don’t condone political violence, I’m not going to shed any tears from someone who made his living sowing the seeds of hate, division, and outright lies that helped create the political climate we currently live in.

All I’m going to say on this is I won’t be lectured on what an appropriate reaction to political violence is from the same people who thought the Paul Pelosi attack was a comedic goldmine.
