This is the Moonseed Moth, a very common visitor to my porch light.

A few months ago I realized that the intricate patterns on some moth wings would make really good floor rugs. I took a rectangular sample from a common, albeit beautiful moth, and created 4 different options. I give you the Moonseed Rug! Which is your favorite?

I haven’t felt like posting anything lately. I’m angry with what is happening in our country and feeling powerless to do anything about it. Anyway, this is an escape from the news and a reminder of the beautiful natural world around us.

They can be found throughout the eastern half of the US, up into southern Canada.

There are other species in the same genus (Hyalophora) that can be seen in the western US and Canada.

There are more than 70,000 species of Lepidoptera in the world but only one could be crowned this year’s sexiest. That moth is the Painted Tiger Moth (Arachnis picta).
