Yes he was handsome. But give some credit to the meticulous attention his wife Anna Murray Douglass paid to his care, his home, & the presentation of his garments. It was Anna, a free woman who he met in Baltimore, who out of her meager savings gave FD the money for his train ride to escape.

Black-and-white photograph from December 1, 1955: Rosa Parks, standing and wearing glasses and a coat, calmly has her fingerprints taken by a white police officer in Montgomery, Alabama, shortly after her arrest for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white passengerโ€”an act that sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and became a defining moment of the Civil Rights Movement.

Color photograph of Rosa Parks (1913โ€“2005), the civil rights icon known for her pivotal role in the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, taken in her later years. The close-up portrait shows an older Black woman, smiling warmly and broadly with genuine joy, her eyes crinkled behind large, round, gold-framed glasses. Her silver-gray hair is neatly styled in an elegant braided updo or bun. She wears a deep purple or blue patterned high-necked blouse or dress with a subtle floral or abstract design, set against a neutral indoor background that keeps the focus on her radiant, dignified expression and infectious smile. The image captures her gentle strength, warmth, and enduring spirit in a candid, uplifting moment.

Rosa Parks was born #OTD in 1913.

She was arrested (1955) for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white person (the law when a bus was full).

This sparked the Montgomery bus system boycott & led to the 1956 SCOTUS decision banning segregation on public transportation. #CivilRights #BHM

A close-up composite photograph of the Eiffel Tower's intricate iron lattice structure under a clear blue sky, focusing on the first-floor level where the historic frieze of 72 male scientists' and engineers' names (engraved by Gustave Eiffel in 1889) is prominently displayed in large gold letters on a horizontal band encircling the tower. The main image shows part of the tower's arched supports and the balcony railing. The inset zoomed-in detail at the bottom is an illustration showing the engraved band with the women's names to be added onto the Eiffel Tower with JAMIN, GUYOT, CURIE, and others in uppercase gold lettering on the iron beam. This image illustrates the current appearance of the Eiffel Tower's first-floor frieze and serves as a visual reference for the ongoing "Hypatia" project (announced in 2025โ€“2026 by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and a commission including Femmes & Sciences association), which proposed adding a new matching strip of 72 women scientists' names (French or France-linked pioneers from the 18th century to modern times) directly above the existing frieze. The proposed additionsโ€”featuring luminaries like Marie Curie (already noted but emphasized for her legacy), Irรจne Joliot-Curie, Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat, Angรฉlique du Coudray, Sophie Germain, and othersโ€”would be engraved in the same gold uppercase style, font size (about 60 cm high), and architectural placement to achieve symbolic gender equality and honor women's overlooked contributions to science, spanning fields from physics and mathematics to medicine and botany. As of January 31, 2026, the list has been unveiled and is awaiting final approvals for engraving (goal of Q1 2027). #EiffelTower #HypatiaProject #FemmesEtSciences

By early 2027 (goal), the names of 72 notable women scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians, inventors, physicians, explorers & more will be added to a new golden frieze on all 4 sides of the Eiffel Tower directly above the 72 men listed since its original 1889 opening.

A black-and-white historical photograph of Jane Bolin, the first Black woman to serve as a judge in the United States. She is seated formally at a judge's bench, facing the camera with a calm and composed expression. Her dark hair is neatly styled and pulled back. She wears a short-sleeved, dark polka-dot dress with a V-neck collar. In her right hand, she holds a pen poised over a document on the desk, while her left arm rests beside it. A wooden gavel lies to her left on the bench. Behind her is a large, high-backed leather chair with studded trim, and the setting conveys the authority of a courtroom environment.

Black-and-white photograph of civil rights leader Ella Baker speaking passionately into a vintage ribbed microphone at a rally. She wears cat-eye sunglasses and a light-colored sleeveless top, her left hand powerfully raised in the air and her mouth open mid-speech. Her expression is intense and determined. In the background, a large portrait of a young man (possibly a civil rights figure) is partially visible on an easel.
