Take #ecrs away from what could be truly impactful work. Working with frameworks such as #Manylanguages @manylanguagesc.bsky.social then seems like a deterrant to achieving professional goals.

In the classical frame, institutions in their desire to competitively indulge in this spurious one-upmanship are a major obstacle to progress in #bigteamscience and #science in general. Instead of nurturing the careers of #ecrs, what requirements such as "which author are you" tend to do is:

One of the major extrinsic hurdles to increasing outreach for @manylanguagesc.bsky.social has been structural and institutional requirements for potential collaborators to be `first authors' and/or 'last authors' for them to even be considered candidates for positions. <long rant coming>

The difficulty of measuring #intensity and the ease of measuring #duration perhaps is the reason why so many contrasts rely heavily on #duration, despite its infeasibility as a stable cue across contexts #unpopularopinion

It would be so much easier if our brains didn’t evolve to spin narratives out of unrelated events and just do matrix algebra #machinelearning #neuralnetworks
