The one time I played a wizard he was both a weather specialist (ranger) and a devotee of Zagyg who regularly did shenanigans (bard).

I really only have one TTRPG character, an abstract multicolor smear across ranger and cleric and bard, that I pick out sections of to reify as my actual character in any game.

I think this is actually my problem with half the books labeled "cozy." Authors know they're supposed to have tension but the genre prohibits serious antagonism so sometimes you get a big run of dramatic build-up that, instead of resolving, simply evaporates.

It starts with the main character's wagon stopped at a fallen tree across the road. Two scary-looking highwaymen appear. They cut the tree in order to let her pass. Then it just goes on like that from there.

So I just read a book where (almost) every character turned out to be nice and good-intentioned and apparent conflicts were resolved by talking and it was like.

On the one hand it's impressive they made an entire not-terrible story out of that. On the other hand, no emotional investment was made.

"But why can't the characters just talk it out like normal people‽"

Because then it would be *incredibly dull.*
