I do still find the east front to be the trickiest with how few units you have and how precarious it is.

Supply (I took Essen and Breslau), it's a game of never leaving gaps in your trench lines!

@tdraicer.bsky.social a few PoG questions: the punishing supply rules- do they lean so punishing as a mechanic to get players to employ more cautious/ordered advances that feel more WWI, or is that level of annihilation something that’s historically realistic? (Or a mix of both).

RTT won’t allow you to play them in Aug 1914, but he also never got any in September or fall, at least nothing meaningful.

lol, this is after the supply is base which eliminated everything (they lost Essen and Breslau. But it wasn’t much better before hand (check of the replaceable units box).

Kaiser's worst nightmare as his forces collapse before a single calendar year is up. This is a lesson in supply and retreat. You always give ground rather than getting surrounded.

Home by Christmas, unfortunately, not a merry one for the Entente, who will have to acknowledge Germany as the dominant continental power for decades to come (this is the perfectly executed Schliefen plan at the end of fall 1914). Poor Entente player had zero timely French reinforcement cards.

When people ask me why my deck holder is so big, this is the reason why. Big thanks to @ardwulf.bsky.social for the design and execution.

So rare that the layering is both well done, and looks good; even for those unaffected. Indeed a play aid’s (especially) quality is determined by ease-of-use and functional layout.

My understanding is that you play specific military campaign Russia 1812, for example, but the rules for a grand campaign of the whole war are a bit of a nightmare.

I have the OSS edition from like 2020, unplayed. That looks like an awesome box/editiong though.

End of turn 8 (0900 June 3): sandstorms continue to rage. Axis forces grind to a halt to regroup for dispatch and command points (very few of which are materializing). Italians assault with armour but are repulsed, becoming suppressed. German infantry losses continue to bolster French morale.

End of turn 7 (0700 June 3). Sandstorms persist, and germans loose a dispatch point and roll zero additional commands (only gaining base 4). Very little movement. Much exchange of fire to no effect, but one German infantry company is destroyed.

End of turn 6 (0500 June 3). Axis assault blunted by massive sandstorm, which will not potentially rage all day. French lose another anti tank unit, which was devastating, but German commands/dispatches all but drained, and front line troops getting hit hard.

End of turn 5 (night), mostly just a recovery phase. Although Oberst Greissler attempted to infiltrate the minefields at night much to the detriment of his 200 SchΓΌtzen. Germans also having a hard time
Getting dispatch and command points, whilst French and Italians are in strong C&C positions.

End of turn 4, axis forces knock out French anti tank gun that was laying down withering opp Fire. Huge loss for the French. But Germans take having to flank because of lack of command and dispatch points. Italians and French banks their points for tomorrow’s action!
