01.04.2025 02:01 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The defense was back in Nov. 2024, but the delay here is due to my long detox time...
Took my time slowly crawling through Marlon James's epic BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF, a world I loved living in.
I celebrated w Rooh Afza soda.
Some1 gifted me w the DUNE ornithopter LEGO set, which-I can say as a lifelong LEGO nerd-is 1 of the niftiest Ive ever built. Most exhilarating pt of the post-defense detox.
I started defense w a clip from the CHILDREN OF DUNE miniseries. It was relevant, I promise.
During the defense, I used a LEGO satellite model I made as part of a demonstration using a globe.
Many thanks to Tsering Wangyal Shawa & Berta Harvey
at Princetonβs Lewis Library for lending the globe. My aunt Gloria came all the way to the defense... & helped me transport it. :)
The diss - 973 pp, 3 bound vols (!) - is dedicated to my parents.
Thanks to all the friends, family, mentors, & colleagues who supported me along the way, & who showed up in person (it was a packed room!) & virtually (60+ on Zoom!).
Passed the PhD defense at Princeton (back in Nov.)! Iβm a dr now.
Grateful to my co-advisors Angela Creager & Dirk Hartog & my other committee members Chris Beauchamp, @historyasif.bsky.social, & Natasha Wheatley.
