but very little of the reader feedback real hit on it. same with the focus on the worldbuilding, the setting, the atmosphere. which... like, I *GET IT.* I know the audience I'm writing for, and I know that if I'm doing it right, this stuff fades into the background. still feels odd.

for instance I poured a LOT of effort into the subway train entangled weapons fight, to the point of actually reenacting the fight with a partner and using blue guns to make sure it worked. I felt like, in a story like this, failure didn't land if you didn't see them *try* and demonstrate real skill

one of the things that has been weird about writing ISOLATING EVENT is that the parts that I agonized over the most in writing it really get the least attention. which... I guess, mission accomplished? it means they worked, but it still feels strange.
