One thing that annoys and depresses me is how utterly unimaginative, uncreative, trite, predictable, uninspiring, unproductive, self destructive, unclever, uninsightful, unoriginal, stagnated, pedestrian, antediluvian and uncivilized racism and racists are.

The normalisation and mainstreaming of racism aches me. This is not new, but the brazenness of it today is chilling.

High standard of English to be required for leave to remain, Mahmood to pledge Home secretary to set out proposed tougher conditions including not taking benefits and β€˜spotless’ criminal record

This is grim - inc making volunteering a requirement when people are working long hours and facing high childcare costs, exacerbated by visas limiting labour mobility and no recourse to public funds, and penalising claiming benefits for those who have that option www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

White supremacy is not a β€œlegitimate view.”

Vilifying migrants is not β€œreasonable debate.”

Eugenics is not a β€œcontroversial belief.”

Genocide is not a β€œjustified action.”

These are all examples of violent racism. We should recognise this basic fact and reject such politics unapologetically.

I think if you keep telling people that they are rubbish, being strangers is the best you can hope for...

Keir Starmer claims soaring immigration has done incalculable damage to UK economically and politically

Keir Starmer claims soaring immigration has done incalculable damage to UK economically and politically

Shameful bullish. What's done incalculable damage is a decade of pernicious falsehoods about immigration, while people who should know better refuse to counter the lies of the increasingly normalised far right.

Let's tackle those lies:

Law, Necropolitics and Possible Worlds Otherwise: Contemplating an end to the art of structural death Law’s extensive entanglement with deciding who may live and who must die

This essay contains thoughts that led to a chapter I wrote, β€œEducating for the End of a Necropolitical World" (link in essay). My question remains: does and can the work we do open up possibilities for living differently in the world? Or is it all more of the same?
