Sure, I don't necessarily disagree with that. What I was trying to say (poorly, my b) is that even if by the time semantic processing takes place the brain functions are similar/same, certainly there are pre-semantic functions that differ between the two. And both those functions ought to be trained

My opinion is that they do not count as reading. But that's not to say they aren't a valid and valuable method of consuming information.
