Damn. That ruling in favour of the Cowichan has racists out and frothing. It's almost like the 1867 land grab without treaties by Joseph Trutch was a bad idea with long lasting impacts or something.

I'm a guy in BC making it work the best I can. Xennial, firm opinions, progressive by nature.

We've slashed taxes for years, meaning we slashed programming for years, meaning we manufactured this problem. The solution isn't rocket science, it's just upsetting to capitalists.
26.09.2025 22:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The bulk of these issues are tied to affordable housing unavailability and lack of funding for mental health, health, and social programs. And I can almost guarantee that everyone complaining wants a solution that won't raise taxes or close tax loopholes. 1/2

Hey, @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social, when is BC going to take civil defense seriously in this climate change scenario we're in? We can't keep scrambling every year. We need permanent, full-time people and equipment/resources past what we have now.

Sometimes you crave nostalgia dinner. Sometimes you grab a bottle of Golden Dragon Thick Teriyaki sauce and make an 80's style stir-fry. And then everything is just... Better.
13.06.2025 00:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This one might be weird to some because "Civil Defense" has basically been dead in Canada and the USA since the 1960s.
Ireland, Germany, and Singapore all have Civil Defense type organizations that we should really be copying, because the current ad-hoc approach isn't working.
I 100% agree with this. Canada needs a proper Civil Defence Corps. Organized, uniformed, trained, and equipped. I've been talking about this for ages and I'm glad it's getting more traction.

A solid opinion piece from The Vancouver Sun. BC's lack of biodiversity laws and over reliance on industry to make ethical and environmentally sound decisions is a problem we need to address to have a secure future.

This is brutal and entirely predictable. All studies so far indicate that most models of AI use for creative or knowledge/information processing based tasks leads to declines in capability in those areas.

They were big on making noise about it but short on actually addressing the issues in the trades with apprenticeship that were maintaining those numbers. I had a lot of friends fighting to get hours and sign-offs because employers wanted to avoid paying journeyman wages.
