This podcast on petromasculinity and the manosphere (lol) by @amywestervelt.bsky.social and Daniel Penny is characteristically informative and insightful, but also surprisingly funny. Just the theme song (HUUUGH!!!) cracks me up.

You can see and smell the Canadian wildfire smoke in southern Michigan this morning. Not healthy, so best to limit time outside. This is what human-caused climate change looks and smells like. US greenhouse gas emissions contribute to making this situation worse.

This. I have tremendous empathy for climate anxiety and despair, but very little for those telling others it's too late. The former is unavoidable to some degree if you understand what we're up against, the latter is untrue (climate isn't pass/fail and every degree matters) and undermines action.

I am once again asking you to appreciate how wildly dirt-cheap solar panels now are*. Cheaper than siding, cheaper than shingles, cheaper than fence slats, almost as cheap as the sand their silicon comes from.

*Or can be, anyway! Most US states still don't allow the DIY plug-in solar shown below.

I feel too often planning & engineering are indistinguishable to many people, and often are understood as "just another study" that kicks the can down the road on inaction. For transit projects, both are needed, and engineering is essential to advance to construction and, ultimately, service.

Also? It's okay to feel hopeless! It's inaction that kills. There's plenty of other fuel for action: Rage, spite, revenge, defiance, doing the right thing, being part of something bigger than ourselves, the joy of showing how creepy and weird the weird creeps are who are wrecking the planet, etc etc
