I tried to use the opportunity of a broken driver-side window motor to run a little foraging cost experiment on myself.
Sadly, I can only conclude that my giving-up density for hot french fries is greater than the perceived cost of one (1) awkward social interaction to pay out of the back window.

Emily Jackson presents in front of a group of seated people. The screen behind her reads “Essentials for a spa day: a trait based approach to understanding the effect of reserve characteristics on the biomass of reef fishes by Emily Jackson and Alastair Harborne”
Emily Jackson presents in front of a room full of seated people, she is mid speech. The screen behind her reads “Which traits matter?” It also contains a logo for the fishbase database as well as the title of a paper by Dr. David Kohan, the slide is decorated with pictures of several reef fish.

A close-up of a certificate that reads “1st place oral presentation Florida international University Biosymposium. This acknowledges that Emily Jackson has been awarded first place in research presentations.” The certificate is signed by the coordinators of Biosymposium; Dr. Justin Campbell and Dr. Rolando Santos.
Had a great time last week at FIU Biosymposium! Always fun to see what other labs are up to, and get to present some of what I’m working on.
This year I got first place for my presentation on an analysis my advisor and I have been running; looking at traits of fish and response to marine reserves.

In all honesty I kind of love it when you click on a web result for a scientific paper fully expecting to be routed to a journal landing page, and instead a pdf pops up and asks to be downloaded. It gives a very harangued “You want this?? Here! Take it!” vibe.

Enjoyed seeing old friends and hearing new findings at the Florida Keys Marine Science Conference last week!
I got a chance to present a poster on some of the ongoing damselfish behavioral epigenetics work I’m running based on the experiments Dr. Lanie Esch completed when she was at FIU.
