Hello- how is everyone in the #Genealogy world? Iβve been missing GenChat/ Ancestry Hour- unfortunately these days I am usually asleep/ getting read for bed by 8 as I start work early π΄
I think Iβve *finally* managed to make some headway with my German ancestors in the last few days! βΊοΈ

Hello everyone at #GenHour- a brief stop in from me today!
I have been confined to my house a lot due to flooding this week (I was luckily not affected.)
In better news, I came across possibly one of the best newspaper articles so far in my research concerning my illegitimate 4x ggrandfather!
28.11.2024 20:14 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0
Iβve found the predictions have become better since the big update!
However, it still thinks I am my Nanβs niece and not her granddaughter and the page glitches every now and then.

Gosh, 1764! You are very lucky to have a photo of someone born that far back. I think my oldest photograph is for someone born in 1825.

For my Nanβs DNA test (as she is closer in relation), we do have matches to Vidler/Vitler descendants. At a quick glance on Ancestry, there is only one who still looks like they bare the Vidler surname.

Wow, thatβs fascinating!
Was 1804 when he was born, as I think that would be a bit before the advent of photography ?
21.11.2024 20:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Thank you very much!
Yes, it starts off as Vitler in the 1700s, and then gradually throughout the 1800s slowly turns to Vidler on *most* of the descendants.

Any updates on your family research?

Thank you! I would love to hear more about him- does the wheel(?) in the background hint to his occupation.
Also, thatβs amazing to have a photo of a 5x gg! When was this taken?

Thank you- and yes- Iβm always looking for matches with a tree, or at least some information/ an unusual name/ something on their profile
21.11.2024 20:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
However, there are other William Vitlers in the Sussex area who could have been the likely father.
Also, although her was named βWilliam Vitlerβ, suggesting this could be the fatherβs name, he could have been a Vitler with a different forename!
21.11.2024 20:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
I think there is possibly a link. The link, if correct, would be through the William who married in 1731 to Mary Jeffrey.
There is a lot of speculation online that their son William (b.1733) is the father of the illegitimate βWilliam Vitler or Priorβ b. 1755, who I am descended from.
