From 1975, Joy of Cooking WHIPPED CREAM CHEESECAKE 16 Servings Prepare a double recipe of: A crumb crust, 642 Reserve ½ cup of this mixture. Press the remainder with a spoon or the palm of the hand on the bottom and sides of a 12-inch spring-form pan. Chill this shell thoroughly. Preheat oven to 350° To make the filling, sift: 1½ cups sugar Beat until light: 6 eggs Add the sugar gradually. Beat these ingredients until very light. Add: 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons grated lemon rind 1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 teaspoon vanilla Blend well and add to the above: ½ cup all-purpose flour 3½ pints smooth cottage cheese: 2¼ Ib. Whip and fold in: 2 cups whipped cream Fill the pie crust. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over the filling. Bake about 1 hour. Turn off the heat and permit the pie to stand in the oven with the door open for 1 hour longer or until cooled.

I don't think my mother even used recipes. It was all in her head. She passed things down verbally. And yes, I get a little 😭 when my daughter says she used a recipe of mine. I cook very simply. I write the instructions with her in mind, and she tells me if it flows logically in the kitchen.
