What do chatbots even do? My initial thoughts on language models. No receipts yet, just ungrounded thoughts. Let's see where this goes...

Doing something a bit new. A substack! Here is my first post...some unfiltered thoughts on chatbots. open.substack.com/pub/alwaysco...

I love science, but it takes more than science to sustain it. We talk so much about STEM, but it is things like art and the humanities that push and nurture the world.

In Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (arguably one of the best anime in a very long time), demons deceive through the use of human-like language. Their words evoke empathy from humans without knowing what empathy is themselves. I can't help thinking about modern AI each time I rewatch the anime.

Thanks, @grimace14.bsky.social There would have to be a mathematical model showing this could explain the discrepancy. Would this effect likely have changed over the past four years across many counties? Would this consistently favor only higher turnouts for top of the ballot republican votes?

It looks like most of his work addresses 2020 claims, but I do not see any current models for 2024 data.

Thanks! Has he looked at or explained anything specifically from the 2024 election or just election data in general?

What do you think of the election data analysis by @electiontruth.bsky.social ? From a political standpoint, what could explain what they are seeing?

Is independent media enough, though? Or do we need better (grassroots?) means for channeling information to the masses? Perhaps this Bluesky ecosystem is a start, but I feel like something else is needed. Like a trend in how we label and share stories.

Okay, brainstorming some more on this, but if we tagged news content with information about its newsworthiness, I think it could significantly help us swim through all of the noise: impact, urgency, proximity, prominence, and novelty. #ShapeOurOwnMedia

News bias is not just in how events are reported but also in what is being reported. When you watch a news stream or look at news from an algorithm, someone or something else is dictating what is important.

Do you think we can start coming up with hashtags to indicate the reason why certain news is newsworthy? People can then sort content based on the ways in which certain newsworthy events are newsworthy.

These seem like great book recommendations. I have gone through N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth Trilogy and Octavia Butler's Dawn multiple times.

22.01.2025 16:31 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Like, if something is newsworthy, are there different types of properties that make something newsworthy? What kind of effect does it have on the world? Did someone say something, do something? What is the scale and the context?

21.01.2025 18:24 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

If there are certain things in the news that are more like distractions and others with deeper consequences, I feel like we need a good taxonomy or system to distinguish different types of newsworthy events. Unsure what exactly this looks like for the moment.

Udon noodle soup.

Udon noodle soup.

Made udon noodle soup for dinner last night. The meat at the top is stir fried pork and it is garnished with green onion, yuzu zest, and miyoga. #うどん #udon #dinner

Also, if it really had logical elements then it could be embedded into smart contracts and self executing items would actually be self executing….technical details aside.

Less ambiguous laws, perhaps written in logic and with explicit intentional outcomes.

Many people have lost faith in the mainstream media. If you truly believe that then we must learn and teach journalistic processes and integrity, critical thinking, and and respect for truth and the human condition.

Meta's decision to get rid of fact-checking is INSANE. Real fact-checking goes deep into primary sources, tracking down the origination of claims and their context. Community notes fail this, relying too much on secondary sources and political bias.

The fight of Vaatu and Rava, from The Legend of Korra.

I keep thinking about the great spirits from The Legend of Korra. There is something very poetic about the ability of light to emerge from the darkness itself.
