Also _/5 rating systems *are* kinda sloppy, but i can translate 3.75/5 to "really good, but i don't *love* it."

I would've given it a higher score if it only would've trimmed about 50~ pages at a certain point down a bit, but ultimately I still very much like it. And if you like stories about underrepresented voices in history, or interesting prose in general, I can highly recommend this.

The protagonist is great, though I would've tweaked a few things late in the book that made me uncomfortable in a way that I don't find necessary. Most supporting characters are good as well, though a few in the third act of the story were boring unnecessary, in my opinion.

The book as a very gripping examination of the immigrant experience, specifically regarding Chinese-Americans during the gold rush, though its messages aren't specific to that group and still hold true today. I enjoyed what it had to say *land*, and how people relate to it.

This is woke Cormac McCarthy with a hint of Toni Morrison. Now go read it. It's damn good for a debut novel, has a level of quality in its prose that *never* dips, excellent structure, and a plot that only faulters at the beginning of Act 3.

And support cards in general dont need to be pulled that often--their category matters more than what they are specifically, though there are optimal ones. Regardless, you can still do A-ranked runs with level 25-30 golds so long as you have the right set up.

On top of this, there're mechanics that allow you to borrow legacies and one SSR (usually a level 50 kitasan black) per run, so you can benefit off the backs of other whales and follow them to do it every run.

These one and two stars through repeated pulls can then be leveled up to three stars and become functionally indistinct from pulled three stars.

You don't need to spend a red cent on the horse gacha game. You'll naturally acquire enough carrots to regularly get 10 pulls, through which you'll both acquire three stars semi-regularly and one and two stars every time.
