Understanding Early Large-Scale Collectives: A Global Perspective
This volume brings together perspectives from different parts of the world that showcase the wide variety of practices, institutions, and ideologies that allowed for shared identities and coordinated ...
This edited volume represents a serious effort to rethink basic categories of human political development, based on new archaeological data from across the world. Thanks to Justin Jennings for inviting me to write a preface (in which I note a debt to Carole Crumley)

Humans in Africaβs wet tropical forests 150 thousand years ago - Nature
The identification of tools dated to the time of Homo sapiens associated with microfloral evidence of wet tropical forests indicates that West African forests were occupied by humans much earlier...
In @nature.com we show that humans lived in rainforests ~150,000 years ago β over double the previous oldest estimate. Their presence in West Africaβs rainforests demonstrates the spread of early humans and places ecological diversity at the heart of our species.

European glaciers have shrunk 40% since 2000, study says
Loss of cover in Alps and Pyrenees part of βalarmingβ global acceleration in melting of ice mass
When I went viral last year with a post about the RhΓ΄ne glacier, I was ridiculed by many for being concerned about the retreat.
40% loss in 1/4 of a century is massive. The fact it's accelerating should be alarming. The speed of retreat is a visceral sign of the crisis we are in.

One of the most stunning images ever created to illustrate the magnitude of our crisis. May I contact you directly about an idea to ensure more people around the world see it and continue learning how to fight climate change?
