Take advantage of the huge number of modal spells WotC has introduced in recent years to up the volume of interaction in your deck without leaving you stranded with dead cards. I know Best of 1 games on Arena has spurred a lot of this design but it translates very nicely to Commander!

As I wrote about and have been advocating, Core should be defined by:
Chill game, 8 turns at least
No mass LD, 2-card combo kills, or chaining extra turns
and most importantly -- NO GAME CHANGERS

I used to play Oregon Trail and other games on a dummy terminal that would dial into mainframe; it had no screen, you played by typing and the game would print out on the printer. What was fun is at the end you had this scroll of paper that logged how the entire game played out you could take home
