At the Capital standing up for public schools and for all our kids!
90% of Arizona kids attend a public school in their community.
Our neighborhood public schools are the heart of our communities!
It’s Read Across America Week!
Today I read at Ocotillo Elementary School and City of Phoenix Mayor @mayorgallego.bsky.social also read to students! 📚📖
Tonight the Governing Board unanimously passed a Safe and Stable Schools Resolution.
It’s a clear statement that WESD is a Safe Zone for all students and they have the right to an education regardless of citizenship status.
WESD will remain a safe and stable learning environment for all students.
They don’t deserve this and we shouldn’t want this for them. They’ll be worse off and the adults will be at fault. These students deserve leaders that care, that see their struggle, and want them to succeed academically despite the cost.
#education
It's about a district that I was elected to represent, including every student we serve.
#education
Not to mention special education, which WESD has many students they serve.
Headstart programs… and more.
It’s not just about my son, but it’s about every student he goes to school with and every student in his district, they depend on the same services.

Tomorrow we expect an Executive Order that could change children’s lives.
-My son attends a Federally funded Title 1 School.
-My son benefits from Federal grants for FREE after school programs.
-My family doesn’t pay for breakfast or lunch.
All of that could end.

14.11.2024 01:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The long answer is that, we’re living in unprecedented times & that could change.
The Gov could take away our marriage & it wouldn’t void the adoption. We would still have parental rights. It would be hard for them to argue that it voids the adoption.
With my will and trust in place we’re ok.
Spoke to my adoption attorney and I’m not the only one calling about custody questions if the Gov no longer recognizes gay marriage.
The short answer is they think it will be ok, there’s no past precedent for that to happen. In the past, when the law changed, they recognized existing marriages.
3. Getting Passports for both my children so they have a Federal ID and a birth certificate connecting them to us.
4. Pulling out some of our savings to be cash on hand.
5. Taking our lawyers advice and adjusting any wills and trusts.
Things I’ve been working on as a gay couple with two kids post election:
1. Calling my lawyers and seeing if there is anything else I need to put in to place to protect my adopted children
2. Asking those lawyers what happens to my custody if the Federal Gov dissolves my marriage
