A black cat blessed my porch yesterday. 🖤 It rained over my place finally, and my allergies with be relieved for a little while. Thank you kitty.

She was obviously someone’s pet. I hope to see her again, but I get sad because I can’t have a cat of my own (husband has a legit phobia).

I would encourage ANYONE that wants to draw to do so. But take my warning: do not wait for someone to bestow you the rank of “artist,” and instead focus on the things that will help you continue to create work YOU want.

And there should be more triumph than misery, and for me there usually is, but those hard times can really test your resolve or show that another creative approach will benefit you greatly. There are many ways to draw, and many more other ways to make art.

I could say that “If I can learn how to draw, so can you,” but that would be disingenuous. The truth is that being good at art requires sacrifice and hardship; mental, physical, economic or otherwise. This extends to most people. Some of us feel art is worth it.

My first grade teacher would send my drawings and coloring pages back and say “Spend more time on this. You can do better.” I didn’t know why. I thought they were ok.

So many little things making sense now after learning about my Autism and non/verbal learning difficulties. I tested very poorly

It’s hard, especially now in a chaotic time. Choosing to spend my energy on making art more fulfilling over just making better art has led to a more positive relationship with my pieces :)

I told myself that I needed to draw more men. So, I made a list of a handful of my male ocs. These are the ones I have tackled so far and I'm pretty proud of them.

I still need to practice, but I'm trying!

I started a sketchbook for comfort zone ink drawings, because art shouldn’t be hard all the time.

I worked so hard to learn to draw and to sit still at times and enjoy the positive results of my effort is a courtesy I owe to myself.

Continuation of the portrait of a dark-skinned woman viewed slightly from below. Dark shadows from the top of the page conceal her eyes. The drawing is much deeper in value and areas of her face and neck are drawn in detail. The shadows fall in a gradient towards the bottom of the page, leading to a group of sketched flowers growing upwards.

The next layers - where the drawing becomes fun again. Laying down and lifting graphite is a relaxing process and it’s pleasing to see the drawing take shape and get closer to my vision.

A small light chested, dark winged bird with a fluffy crown sits atop a tiny nest carrying a single egg which is rested on a tiny branch amongst the tree tops. Both mother and egg are lit by the sky peeking through the vast, dark surrounding foliage.

Second (and third) layer is usually my least favorite because everything is in a state of flux and this is where problems present themselves the most. Also, I’ve noticed in faces that unfinished elements can easily lead to horror when put with more refined features.

My name has now changed to applejjacks which is my long running art handle. Hello again, new art coming soon.

A square block of a bumpy, wooly, and somewhat organic shaped pattern surrounded by a fancy, repeating arched border.

I need to block the border (Source: Every Which Way Crochet Borders), but I love the textured stitch design of the main piece. It’s a yarn eater though, as it’s full of clusters.
