You were right Jess! The Sedge bed did produce something interesting - 7 female Entelecara omissa new to Cheshire. A nice fenland species. But still debating whether it was worth missing out on ice cream for this tiddler ๐Ÿ˜† @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social

Oh wow, what a find, especially with 7 individuals!! Seems like a site to go back to in future maybe? (For the ice cream if anything!๐Ÿคฃ). I'm sure Gary will be pleased as well, haha๐Ÿ˜†

Hey Richard! Ooh great, I really hope my research helps you a little with that. I'm still in the process of writing it up, but defo have some interesting results (especially with P. sulcifrons and Mermessus trilobatus!). I'll be sure to share it once I'm done since I hope it can be deemed valuable๐Ÿ˜Š

I spent the evening IDing specimens from the Bagmere SSSI (VC58) recording day to find a male and female Allomengea vidua! I believe this nationally scarce duo is a new hectad record? Good news for the species and site I hope๐Ÿคž (Uploaded to SRS)๐Ÿ•ท @britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk

On Friday, I was at Brereton Heath LNR & Bagmere SSSI looking for more #spiders! It was great to finally attend a recording day again. It was lovely to catch up and see some familiar and new faces. My favourite find has to be the Salticidae, Evarcha falcata. I have a bunch of spiders to ID, again๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ•ท

It's about investigating spider richness, abundance, and diversity across different land use
practices across my uni's farm. So that includes two field margins, a conventional field, a strip crop, and a vineyard๐Ÿ˜Š

All done with the first round of ID for my dissertation, which makes 1,537 spiders in total with most to species where possible๐Ÿ˜ฉ notable finds include the one Mermessus trilobatus and 7 Panamomops sulcifrons. It's time to go through the second survey samples!๐Ÿ•ท @britishspiders.bsky.social

I think this is a nationally scarce Panamomops sulcifrons female? She was caught in the middle of a conventional wheat/barley field of all places๐Ÿ˜† @britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk

Thank you! Yeah, definitely a ways away from where they are typically found๐Ÿ˜† how interesting! I'm doing multiple farms on the site and will be going back to the vineyard a few more times until July to sample, so I wonder if I will catch any more. I'll be sure to let you know if I do!

First post on bluesky, so here is the Mermessus trilobatus female I caught in a vineyard (VC40) for my HRP. Thank you @britishspiders.bsky.social and @tylanberry.bsky.social for helping and confirming the ID. I've uploaded it to the SRS! Maybe an accidental introduction to the area? @cofnod.org.uk
