@britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social I didn't manage a trip up on the Cairngorms plateau, but found some good spiders closer to sea level - Raft Spider (Dolomedes fimbriatus), at last, Northern Bear (Arctosa cinerea), Pardosa agricola, Bolyphantes

SEWBReC #RecordOfTheWeek today is Green-fanged Tube Web Spider (Segestria florentina) spotted at Caerwent Ministry of Defence training grounds by Graham Watkeys. This Mediterranean species is becoming establised in southern UK.
Many thanks for the record & pics, submitted via www.sewbrecord.org.uk
Lots of reporting β by lots of journalists, in lots of papers β about false widows this morning. All based on quote by 'top arachnologist Dr Tom Elwood'.
Except Dr Tom Elwood does not exist.
The story is not flagged as AI β though I assume that is what it is.
Always keep your eye out for collections of dirt hanging in mid air at the base of walls, particularly where you see Lasius niger marching in lines. Note the thick support threads and longer, hollow retreat structure - this is no Cryptachaea blattea, this is C. riparia! @britishspiders.bsky.social

Opilio canestrinii : England : VC27 East Norfolk : TM3798 Loddon : July 2025
I enjoy encountering the odd #harvestman when examining rocks and trees for #lichens. Another ancient and successful form of life. This is Opilio canestrinii, clinging to a tree-trunk in Loddon, Norfolk, England. Harvestmen tend to mature for autumn, and this is the first adult I've seen this year.

A romantic meeting of Wasp Spiders, Argiope bruennichi, at Thompson Common yesterday.
The male is much smaller than the big, stripy female.
They ended up going out to lunch afterwards, when he became the main course.

Choughs over Kynance is always a rather lovely sight...even if they are pulling Atypus affinis webs out of the ground and eating the residents. This silk purse web was lying loose on the ground, looking like a cracked egg in the wake of a good marauding. Clever corvids! @britishspiders.bsky.social
