this has been such a fun period of discovery for me and i am very happy that i have great friends who are also v into movies and i am just very content with this being one of my hobbies lately. movies rock!

and she said it was such a good answer because if she asked the same thing of her husband he would say "to be entertained" and leave it at that. and like, yes! but also, no! it's so much more than that

namely that i love that movies make me see things from another perspective. i love seeing other people's stories. i love stories, period. it scratches the english major in me who loves analyzing and breaking something down, but in a different medium. idk, i just love movies!!

when i came into work the day after seeing NICKEL BOYS i told my coworker all about it and was rambling about how good it was, and she asked "why do you like movies so much?" not as a dig but a genuine question. and i was like. there's a million reasons.

i know i keep talking about it (on twitter but apparently haven't said anything about it here?) but i really thinking about going to see NICKEL BOYS again this week. absolutely cannot stop thinking about it and have been thinking about it for the past two weeks.

i'm very bad at comparing my reviews to others and feeling like i don't articulate myself very well, when really i need to reframe it as writing the review for me as an exercise in digesting the film and forget what anyone else thinks about it. but alas...tis the curse of social media.

i'm so harsh on myself when it comes to writing letterboxd reviews (have a constant "this doesn't make sense you're not saying anything interesting or relevant why bother" stream of consciousness going through my head when writing them) and like. shut the fuck up @ me, be nicer to yourself.

also went to see WICKED again today and really just allowed myself to enjoy it rather than nitpicking and i had a great time!

i know some people probably hated the end of JUROR #2 but oh man, it worked for me!!

saw the terminator (1984) tonight for the first time and it was a fun time but i did lean over to my friend at one point and go "whatever feminism is - this movie is the opposite of that"
