Working on my first cradled panel. I sealed it front and back with gloss, primed it with gesso, and then added some wine labels I printed on laser mailing labels.

The subject will be this still life of sangria and fruit. No idea what I’ll call it.

Just realized I didn’t post the finished version:

My fear is those turned away from Central and South American countries will be detained indefinitely in camps and used for free labor.

I’ve been trying to pray similarly. That God would bring repentance.

Far right groups have expressed that they recognized that gesture for what it is: a signal that this administration will be friendly to their cause. This rally only underscores that message. Our grandfathers fought against this scourge in WWII. We can’t afford to look the other way.

The title is the transliteration of the Aramaic spoken when Jesus raised a little girl who had died. It means “little lamb, arise.”

I have a tattoo of a fern in my shoulder to remind me of this truth.

The outstretched hand represents Christ or even another believer reaching out to lift me up and remind me that I am a child of God, beloved and redeemed.

The standing figure is me stepping out in faith toward that truth. Where I take that step there is life springing up in the desert. ⬇️

I painted this during a time of conflict with a friend. The seated figure is naked, bruised, ashamed, in a barren wilderness. It is me believing and internalizing the unkind and untrue things said to me, as if they are who I am. ⬇️
