also greater budget and timelines for modern game dev means sequels take much longer to come out and new games aren't as frequent. imagine being stuck with an unbalanced mess like injustice 1 or mk9 for 6 years. ill take patches if it means tekken 8 has the heat system it has now than on launch 2/2

its probably stifled some degree of emergent gameplay but SF6, GGST, Tekken 8, KOF XV, etc have all been great, to say otherwise feels wrong. enduring competitive games have had rule changes, whether its the NBA or Chess. i don't think fgs are any different. battlepasses / dark patterns suck tho 1/2
