You know, I'm extremely angry about what happened to Leslie. This was the last tweet he wrote before he died. This is such a fucked up, selfish society that we've normalized mass infection, stigmatized public health, and put disabled people through hell. Things didn't have to be this way.

Half the time when Leslie Lee would come on my podcast (or vise versa) we would disagree on whether the film, comic or tv show in question was good.
But his take was always eye opening and he would show me something I hadn’t perceived before. Most recently re the Batman Caped Crusader show.

Yeah it's wild, he's got more energy than anyone else in the show

No matter how dark and absurd a Robinson/Kanin show can get there's always this sense that they LIKE people and their eccentricities, their unique faces and bodies and ways of speaking. And because everyone gets that basic respect, you never know who's going to steal a scene, or in this case a show.

It's a brutal loss. I'm really sorry

I had the good fortune to know Leslie Lee III a little bit, and to have gone on his show. He was warm, generous, insightful, and passionate. Just an all-around mensch. I'm shocked and saddened to learn of his passing.

Yeah 😔 I wasn't close with the guy but we'd had a few back-and-forths and he was always so thoughtful and funny, just like in his podcasts. This is gutting.

By the design of the USA. Leslie knew and warned of it every day. Doesn't make it go down any easier though.

RIP Leslie. A terrible loss.

Leslie had a rare gift, and made sharp, rigorous analysis feel alive, urgent, and even funny. He could see vile rotten systems/structures with clarity, but never lost sight of the ppl those systems affect. He profoundly cared about disability long before it impacted his own body.

Leslie’s generosity, compassion, & humor made every conversation a lesson in care, curiosity & courage. He made space for others’ brilliance while sharing his own so freely. I still feel bad about when I made him listen to a Reagan anti-socialized medicine record for an episode

I’m heartbroken at the loss of Leslie & for YB who he loved deeply & fiercely. For seven years, I had the privilege of knowing him—his mind, his humor, his boundless creativity, & unflinching political clarity. The world is immeasurably poorer without his voice.
