Claude McKay is often the person I think about. Once "the most famous" Black socialist, celebrated in Russia when he visited in the 20s, but this was completely unsustainable when he (eventually) returned to the U.S.

(I might be messing up his timeline—it's been a while.)

I also had a thought—I shall not pursue—about why Black socialists have succeeded—to various degrees, never forget Grenada—when they are not faced with the dailyness of white supremacy. There's something there.

Du Bois could be a socialist in Ghana in a way he could not in the U.S.

I'm reading the Combahee River Collective's "Black Feminist Statement" (again and again and again).

And, though it doesn't matter, I wonder if the yt Marxist bros have spent time with it. To really think through what it does and why it's a foundational document for contemporary socialism.
