Hypoxia increases susceptibility of human intestinal epithelial cells to rotavirus infection through repression of interferon induction Intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) serve as both a physical barrier and a source of robust antiviral interferon (IFN) response. As such, they constitute the primary barrier that enteric viruses, su...

Excited to share our latest publication! We show that hypoxia suppresses interferon responses to rotavirus, resulting in increased viral burden in vitro. Congratulations to @sorinjacobs.bsky.social and all co-authors for this great work! @meganstanifer.bsky.social @boulantlab.bsky.social

Excited to share our new paper led by recent PhD, Dr. Hannah Schmidt! We found that UFMylation unexpectedly promotes flavivirus particle production by specifically regulating viral assembly. Check it out! #virology #UFMylation #flaviviruses

Schematic showing the experimental outline for a full genome arrayed CRISPR screen. 384-well plates containing cells with an arrayed crRNA library are infected with Cryptosporidium parasites, which undergo asexual rounds of replication intracellularly, followed by sexual development to male and female forms. Plates are then fixed and immunolabeled to detect all parasites, female parasites, host actin recruited to parasite vacuoles, and host nuclei. Three z-stacks were imaged by high content microscopy to detect apically located parasites as well as host cell actin and nuclei.
