You might get advice that's less drastic from @sararah.bsky.social?

Bio-Oil Analysis Laboratory Procedures | Bioenergy and Bioeconomy | NREL

One of the issues was I asked it for an analysis method for oxygenates in biomass fast pyrolysis oils. Anyone would, relatively quickly, come back with the NREL LAP from here www.nrel.gov/bioenergy/bi.... It wanted to do LLE, SPE cleanup, silation, GCxGC-TOF instead of just NREL's dilute & shoot.

A screenshot of text conversation with ChatGPT-5.
Question: "How many carbon atoms are in water?"
Response: "Water (Hβ‚‚O) contains zero carbon atoms β€” it’s just two hydrogens and one oxygen.

If your water has carbon atoms in it, that’s not pure water anymore… it’s either contaminated, or you’ve just discovered a new beverage."

It can pass that elementary chem question.

It has the enthusiasm of a co-op student who read a sample prep and derivatization handbook over the summer before starting work... It wants to hit everything with a silation agent and "maybe run it on a GCxGC-TOFMS" was the solution to every analytical question

I played with it a bit, I asked analytical chemistry questions and it added some little errors into the responses. Nothing awful, but certainly not PhD level work.

More people living here require more public servants to deliver the same service level to each person. Dropping 20% of the workforce as suggested by some think tanks will kneecap services and reduce the capabilities of the gov't to handle the geopolitical economic challenges faced today #CDNPoli

A plot showing the number of federal public servants per 1000 Canadian Citizens from 2005 to 2025. Data compared at April 1 of each year. The number hovers between 7 and 9 public servants per 1000 Canadians across the two decades.

There's constant talk about cutting the 'bloated' Canadian federal public service. The number of public servants has stayed stable between 7 and 9 per 1000 residents over the past decade.

The problem is that Excel is standard on all corporate devices but anything programattic requires teaching people new tools and getting approval to install non-standard software.

It looks like the CASLA radar station (Landrienne, QC) got knocked out by a storm yesterday afternoon. Hopefully it can come back online soon. #WxQC
