I'm also not capable to evaluate the search for all the languages Filmlog is localised for so, if you are speaking a language that is neither English nor German please try to find some characteristic people in your language. This would help me a lot to understand how well my offline search works.

A screenshot of a tmdb.org people search for the searchterm 'Great.
A screenshot of the Filmlog offline people search for the searchterm 'Great.
The second Fimlog offline search comparison to tmdb: 'Great' – here you can see a vast difference in results. Filmlog is showing way more persons that have been named 'Great' or 'Greatest', while tmdb is showing names containing 'Great'. I am not sure which results are working better here?

A screenshot of a tmdb.org people search for the searchterm 'Benjamin.
A screenshot of the Filmlog offline people search for the searchterm 'Benjamin.
First Filmlog offline search comparison to tmdb: 'Benjamin' – the biggest difference is of course that Filmlog also searches for birth names, pen names etc. also the sorting is based on the persons overall popularity. You can see that tmdb firstly lists results that are exact matches.

I also started a benchmark to evaluate, if the my search algorithm is any improvement over the current online search. Check out the next posts to see the differences and how I evaluate the different results.

Join the Filmlog: Private Movie Journal beta
Available on iOS
And to make sure my search implementation does not break, there is a fallback to the tmdb.org online search, just in case. You can test my implementation in the current Filmlog Testflight beta, let me know if it works for you: filmlog.cc/beta

Providing search via a custom wikidata index reduces the number of calls I have to make to tmdb.org, but of course images will only be available online.

I am constantly thinking about how I can move and develop Filmlog to make it distinctive and convincing as a unique premium iOS application. Many different things are in the works, but for now I have started with a feature I always wanted to do: offline search.

A solid linear chart of the last four months. Showing key figures for Simon Braun's apps: Filmlog, Auricula and Next Size.
I have decided to publish some key figures. Why? I'm a curious person and I'm always happy when others publish figures about their apps and I want to keep an overview, so publishing them helps me to stay on top of things. The figures for the last 6 months: simonbraun.eu/insights — #buildinpublic
