On 15 FEB 1933, Italian immigrant Guiseppe Zangara attempted to assassinate newly elected Pres. FDR in Miami. He failed but wounded 5 people, including Chicago mayor Anton Cermak, who later died. Zangara, unemployed and hated the rich, pled guilty and refused to appeal. He was executed on 20 MAR 33.

The Bonus Army was a group of WW I vets who went to Washington to demand payment of a bonus during the Depression. Congress rejected their demands, so President Hoover sent in the Army to evict the vets and burn the camp using gas, bayonets, and tanks. The response led to Hoover's defeat in 1932.

Oct. 1919, Pres. Woodrow Wilson suffers a severe stroke. He was bedridden and partially paralyzed. Many believe that 1st Lady Edith ran the govt. for the last 17 mos. of his term. She claimed that she never made major decisions and acted only as a steward. The 25th amendment was passed in 1967.

Kenneth Polsjek, aka Ken Carter, was a Canadian stunt driver. On 5 SEP, 1983, Carter attempted to jump a pond in Peterborough, Ontario. His car, a 1982 Pontiac Firebird fitted with a homemade rocket, overshot the landing ramp due to extra added fuel and landed on its roof, killing him instantly.
