#NowPlaying #jazz early 70s repress w alternate title. Original title is better imo tho. A top tier west coast jazz album. Land’s debut as leader. Includes the great Carl Perkins who wrote the song Grooveyard. Also Watts tower on cover!

#Jazz #vinyl was in Dallas(ish) for work (grapevine). Went to a small record fair happening at grapevine convention center then josey records. Night train is UK, Bob James 73 reissue, Monterose Japanese, & Jarrett/DeJohnette German. Been after Ralph Peterson album for a bit

Side 1 is a 5 part complex jazz fusion epic. Side 2 gets a little funkier and a little more straight ahead. Theres times it sound like weather report or even Herbie Hancock via sextant. idk it’s good stuff!

#NowPlaying #Jazz 1976 Poland. Prob most fun album I got in Budapest. Amazing jazz fusion / prog at times. Others can probably explain sound better but to me it’s like a funky Eastern Euro Return to Forever. Has mostly wordless vocals in parts that function as another instrument.

#NowPlaying #jazz 1980 Poland. Some nice Polish fusion jazz. Bit on the smooth side but Namyslowski is an interesting player so keeps it from being too smooth. A lot of nice guitar work on here too. Would cite the name of the guitarist but way too lazy to deal w auto-correct

#NowPlaying️ #Jazz 1977 us. RIP Hal Galper. He’s got a number of great ones & played on a bunch of other great stuff but this 1 here is an all timer for me. Crazy good lineup & compositions. Harnesses Hino, McBee, & Williams to create an incredibly cohesive & amazing album

#NowPlaying #jazz 1967 us stereo. Brown doesn’t get enough credit for the run he went on at the beginning of his career. This 1 is an offshoot of Shepp’s Four for Trane from year before. 3 Brown songs & 3 Shepp songs that fit together seamlessly. Tremendous band here too

#NowPlaying️ #Jazz 1972 France. Waldron w Steve Lacy’s group. A lot of cacophony on the 1st song then into calmer waters on back half of side 1. Blue Wee on side 2 is where the group really hits their stride a big highlight for Waldron and Lacy’s long long history of recordings

#Jazz #vinyl Record fair pickups today. Tried to keep it relatively light #’s-wise cuz shelves are full & bank account is empty. Never seen this McBee before. Prince Lasha & Tolliver are Japanese copies. Always really liked the weirdness of the ringer Japanese cover art.

#NowPlaying️ #jazz 1985 Japan stereo reissue. Sunday morning music setting sail. A real jazz classic. I like 1 or 2 of his other blue notes a little better but this is def the very 1st I’d recommend of his to someone new to jazz

#NowPlaying #Jazz 1983 Japan. Somehow had never heard this one before nor realized Tina Brooks is on it. Really great album that (McLean esp) pushes past hard bop. Someday there will no longer be any more new to me amazing blue note sessions, or more likely I’ll die before then

#vinyl #Jazz took stack of albums to trade at store yesterday mostly to get kwanza but lucked into 1 nice buyer at amoeba so had bit extra trade-in money. Bought last 1 (a comp of bands saw at least half live) cuz description. Def have jean jacket & black levi 512’s in my closet

#NowPlaying #Jazz 1980 us. Happy birthday to Hank Mobley. Likely am only 1 w this opinion but think this is his greatest album. Not released until 1980. Includes Woody Shaw on trumpet & maybe some of the most emotive songwriting & playing of his career esp the 3-part title track
