A little bit of everything, all of the time. Come for the privacy engineering, stay for the snark and science snacks. Not that kind of doctor.

I suppose it was only a matter of time until they came for diversity in yeast. I think cheese is next on the list. Any cheese with visible mold is now woke. Cheddar, jack, and mozzarella will be the only cheeses approved by the Committee for American Cultural Purity. Still debating on pepperjack.

Science does not work like this. The only way you can set a timeline is if you have rigged the results in advance.

-Lax inspections- FDA & multiple states let PCA keep operating filthy for decades.

-PCA undercuts higher-quality facilities, forcing them out of the market & acquiring market share.

-PCA finally makes a lot of people sick & shuts down.

It is remarkable (compared to other backsliding regimes) how brazen and transparent Trump is in targeting his "enemies." In Turkey, it would take months and an enterprising journalist to uncover that a university had its funds cut off, a firm blacklisted, contracts rescinded, or thousands fired.

Federal judge invalidates OPM’s directives to terminate federal probationary workers A federal court said OPM's directives on probationary firings have no legal effect, since the office has no authority to order firings in other agencies.

2/ The case is American Federation Of Government Employees, AFL-CIO v. OPM (3:25-cv-01780)

Ruling applies directly to DoD, National Park Service, Dept of Veterans Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, National Science Foundation, Small Business Administration. But may be expanded.

(5/X) It's fun, it's self-sustaining. Is it cringe? Yes, but who cares. Liberals also have a problem of being too cool to approve of anything, of only liking the first album or the unreleased demos.

We need an army of cringe normies to save our country. And I think we've got one on tap.

Measles – NFID Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease that can result in severe, sometimes permanent, complications including pneumonia, seizures, brain damage, and even death

Sharing these numbers because I wasn't aware of them myself. In the US:

* 1 in 5 unvaccinated people who get measles are hospitalized

* 1 in 20 children with measles get pneumonia

* 1 to 3 in 1000 die

If you're not immune, close contact with an infected person gives you measles 90% of the time

Buy billboards/ads (just research the laws around political advertising.) Reach out to faith communities that haven't drunk MAGA kool-aid. Write catchy songs and release them on YouTube. (Hostile Government Takeover is a viral banger!) Hire a Taskrabbit to staple posters to telephone poles.

My foremothers won the right to vote by smuggling seditious pamphlets in their pockets. I've watched a handwritten postcard campaign sway a close election. There are _always_ ways to get a message out. Social media's greatest lie was convincing people that they needed it to talk to other people.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

A snapshot of a quote that reads:
In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, "I don't see the use of this; let us clear it away." To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: "If you don't see the use of it, I certainly won't let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it."

This paradox rests on the most elementary common sense. The gate or fence did not grow there. It was not set up by somnambulists who built it in their sleep. It is highly improbable that it was put there by escaped lunatics who were for some reason loose in the street. Some person had some reason for thinking it would be a good thing for somebody. And until we know what the reason was, we really cannot judge whether the reason was reasonable. It is extremely probable that we have overlooked some whole aspect of the question, if something set up by human beings like ourselves seems to be entirely meaningless and mysterious.

Trump et al got where they are, are doing what they're doing, by playing on the myth of "the corrupt inefficient government", when the reality is that the vast majority of the government is (was?) doing a great job and serving its country faithfully. In part by acting as a check on plutocracy.

I agree. It's more important than ever to distinguish between the good parts of the government (which Trump is trying to eradicate, and protect our food, water, health, etc., not to mention the rule of law), and the small set of GOP who are trying to destroy the government from the inside.
