it's also a particular shame because adventure time was the best episodic television series of the 2010s. it was basically perfect in its overall presentation. it was serialized for miniseries events, but other than that it had only recurring characters and themes. truly episodic, truly great.

i respect it and appreciate when some shows are not meant to be binged, and are episodic in nature. but when shows are serialized such that they feel as if they were made to be binged, weekly releases just don't make sense to me. squares don't fit in circle-shaped holes.

i binged season 1 after it had all already come out, and it was some of the most fun i've ever had with tv, but now that i'm keeping up with each new episode, i almost feel like my time is being wasted. i wish streaming services weren't so binge-hostile, even though i prefer episodic storytelling.

another gripe is that this show really just is not made for weekly releases, so i have almost nothing to say after each episode apart from complimenting the animation or voice acting or overall vibes. it's week 3 and i still don't know what to think, because the show is released in the wrong format.

pacing in fionna and cake season 2 seems to be less tight than the first one. lot of cool themes so far though, and i'm interested to see how they're explored. one of the few times i watch something and have no idea how or where it's gonna go.
