The caveat to lrp is that merely using an opinionated program doesn't stop you from getting stuck in the intractable project pit

[you just get stuck a bit further along in the process than if you started from scratch]

rpgmaker definitely isn't the right tool for everyone, but I think using opinionated pre-baked tools to make some games would be very instructive to a lot of folks setting out to make their epic custom dream game. they're a much lower-stakes way to learn important lessons like "how to tell a story"

Started Escha/Logy and almost immediately ran into a mechanic similar to one I've been mulling over for some future hypothetical project of mine

guess there is some benefit to playing games released after 2000 after all

Generally I feel it's hard to out-and-out 'regret' buying a game

Even with stuff like suikoden tierkreis or golden sun ds there was good music to take away from it

Whereas with demon king chronicle I had read the review talking about its issues, and guess what, I ran into those issues

Mostly just cementing that I didn't really care for mystery dungeon-type games, probably
At least with super mystery dungeon I got through to the second town before dropping it

And all for different reasons, too!

Bosses with HP regen but otherwise reasonable HP do make it really, really obvious when you're not powerful enough to deal with them

But that does leads to situations where you're right on the edge and are barely breaking even damagewise, which can be just a bit frustrating

I've done basically everything besides the bonus bosses/some of bonus dungeon regular encounters, and considering I'd need to actually consult a guide in order to make powerful enough equipment to deal with any of that stuff I think I should probably start on the sequel

been drawing end-of-scenario-related stuff and I'd rather keep that stuff away from here for the time being

so instead just have the result of an enemy suffering almost every [non-buff/debuff] status I've set up so far

cygna with a shield taller than her and admittedly the longest type of spear in the game cygna having really bulky weapons compared to the rest of door.rpg's cast does make the point here easier to make, but, you know

it also helps that 2d sprites on a dedicated battle screen avoid a lot of the problems more actiony games face if they want varied character shapes/weapon types
