Another portrait for Asian Americans who think ICE is not our fight. Quok Shee came to the US in 1916 with her husband & was detained at Angel Island in SF. She had to fight for nearly 2 years. Finally in 1918 a judge ruled that immigration officials had abused their power & withheld information. ⬇️

Here's my portrait of Wong Kim Ark, born in the US. He visited China and on his return, immigration officials denied him re-entry under the Chinese Exclusion Act. He fought and won, establishing that birthright citizenship applies to people other than whites and blacks.
