The “offices of state” of England did become the offices of state for GB. However, Scottish “government” largely continued as it had before without the MPs representing Scotland in the union parliament having input.
If England annexed Scotland it would have done so as it did to Wales in 1542

My only issue with this article ( www.lawscot.org.uk/members/jour... ) written by a now deceased legal expert is the assertion both kingdoms were extinguished & Great Britain became the state.

Except he has ignored the actual process of the union and what happened constitutionally

I think this is a problem both sides have as legal opinion provided to Ukgov in 2012 erroneously stated England annexed Scotland which backs up the colony viewpoint. On the other hand the facts show something entirely different where both kingdoms continue & retained their constitutions & rights

Pete, I’m genuinely curious to see what your take on the history of the union and what is meant constitutionally for Scotland is?
I disagree with the view 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is a colony, but it has been treated like one & I applaud the group for trying something

It is time for Scotland to exercise its rights as an equal partner with England in the union & take control of its destiny by using its constitution to end the union

The it’s very complex as people joined the colonial effort for a variety of reasons whilst Scotland was treated like a colony at the same time. The rich and powerful didn’t stand up for Scotland at any time

Scotland had no public debt at the time of the union. England on the other hand was screwed & in a major recession in 1705. That national debt = up to £640bn today

It was Queen Anne who agreed the treaty of union & ratified it at a ceremony on the 23rd of July 1706. The parliaments only put the terms into domestic law

Most money is actually form the govt buying goods & services. You are right that banks acting as agents for the govt (who has allowed them to do this) also create £s but their reserves are held at BoE & they get billions for free from Ukgov too

You also tie the creation of new £ in with what is expected to be collected by tax. What they collect & destroy is irrelevant.

You reference MMTers saying there’s no issue if the govt prints new £ to spend. This is not true on 2 points.
1. The BoE marks up specific accounts to enable payment.
2. Ukgov needs to be aware of the availability of real resources as spending willy billy when resources aren’t available inflation ⬆️

I see your problem. You believe taxes & “borrowing” fund a fiat currency issuing govts spending. This is not true & is even more damaging for the poorest in society.

MMT is not a policy. How would it damage the poorest people?

Of course scotgov could just be a fiat currency issuer which means its tax revenue would not be used to fund services. Instead those taxes would encourage the mega rich not to hoard or be used to encourage certain behaviours

No it didn’t. Why? The ToU was an international treaty agreed by Queen Anne in her 2 different roles. She did this for 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 under the prerogative act 1661 ( still on statute book) that delegated authority to the king / queen of Scot’s to enter treaties.

Actually the union was agreed between Queen Anne acting in her capacity as Queen of Scots & as Queen of England. The parliaments only put the terms into their respective domestic laws. It was at this point the real threats were made to the estates of Scotland
