Today’s Supreme Court decision is not only hugely disappointing, but also dangerous for our communities, for our Constitution, and for our democracy.

This week #CalLeg approved 3 priority bills from the Latino & API Caucuses to protect immigrant families in our schools and healthcare spaces.

They include:

These bills now head to the Governor’s desk for consideration.

📢 The CA Legislature approved joint Assembly & Senate resolutions in support of federal proposals to modernize the Immigration Act of 1929 also known as “the Registry Act”
➡️ This update could mean a pathway to citizenship for 8 million immigrants who’ve built their lives in the U.S. for years.

Statement on Border Patrol Operation in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Leonardo "Flaco" Jimenez, one of the most influential figures in Tejano music & a master of the accordion. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, & all whose lives were touched by his incredible music. Rest in peace, Flaco Jimenez.

Today, SB 627 & SB 805 passed the Asm. Public Safety Committee. These bills which will prohibit officers from wearing masks & ensure they are displaying identification, are part of the proposed expedited immigration package that will provide additional protections for our immigrant communities.

We look forward to working with Pro Tem Elect Senator Limón to champion for the rights and wellbeing of our communities!

This Independence Day is not only tainted by the fear and terror instilled by egregious federal immigration raids, we are also seeing a huge betrayal of hardworking families across our country.

America is a nation of immigrants, made stronger by our diverse immigrant communities, and as we celebrate our values of liberty and justice today, we must reflect and recommit to making those values a reality for ALL.

California Latino Legislative Caucus Statement on 2025-26 Budget Agreement

As the Latino Caucus, we urge the Supreme Court to uphold the 14th amendment as this case moves forward and to reject the idea that anyone—including the President can single-handedly undermine and alter our Constitution.

While this decision does not rule on the constitutionality of Trump’s birthright citizenship executive order, it is extremely concerning.

The Latino Caucus stands firmly against the inhumane and immoral attacks on our immigrant communities. Yesterday, Senators Durazo and Caballero presented #SJR9 to condemn the immigration raids and call for support for the immigrant families that contribute so much to California.
