A fantastic morning at Shoreline Park in Mountain View today, celebrating the restoration of a 435-acre wetland habitat to support wildlife and improve public access to the Bay. (1/2)

Great to join @governor.ca.gov and colleagues for the bill signing for a $590 million emergency loan to support Bay Area Transit agencies that will protect service for hundreds of thousands of transit riders, and get hundreds of thousands of cars off of the road every day.

One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to occasionally be a tour guide for students visiting Sacramento from the district. 

It was great to welcome the Latimer School from San Jose and show them their State Capitol! I am always impressed by our future leaders and their amazing questions!

It was uplifting to talk to the San Mateo County Youth Commission Civic Cafe yesterday. Their concern for others and for our democracy, their moral clarity, and their insistence that we must do more to push back against those who abuse power was truly inspiring. The future is bright!

We recommit to the truth of this history - and to our responsibility to educate our children about it - so that we may confront the rising tide of antisemitism and hate and uphold dignity and justice for all. (2/2)

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of the six million Jewish people and the millions of others who were systematically murdered in the Holocaust. (1/2)

It was a beautiful community celebration, and I’m excited for Neysa to take on this critical role and lead the office with the fairness, professionalism, and deep sense of public service that have been the cornerstones of her life and career.

A wonderful and historic night celebrating the swearing in of Santa Clara County Assessor Neysa Fligor, the first woman of color and first mom elected to a countywide leadership position in Santa Clara County!

I had my first serious talk with my six month old boy, Kaiden, on our walk this afternoon. May he grow up to have the same courage and moral clarity that Renee Good and Alex Pretti had to protect the vulnerable and stand up to the abuses of the powerful.

He was tackled, beaten, disarmed, and executed. And the government immediately and shamelessly started lying about what our eyes can see and our ears can hear.

Alex Pretti was an ICU nurse. He is the second American citizen senselessly murdered by untrained, unneeded, unaccountable, unidentified government thugs who are terrorizing a U.S. city. He was legally monitoring government activity. He was legally carrying a firearm.

At a time when it can feel like our country is divided, today is a powerful reminder that service unites us. When we work side by side, labels fade away, and what remains is our shared humanity.

What an inspiring morning celebrating MLK Jr Day in San Jose with a tree planting with over 100 volunteers at Rainbow Park and volunteering at the community garden at Latimer School with dozens of students and parents. As MLK taught us, everyone can be great because everyone can serve.

Monique and I were elected together in 2016 and quickly became close friends. I've seen up close her ability to bring people together to cut through differences, get past emotions, and craft diffucult compromise. She is firm in her beliefs, but not dismissive of others. (2/3)

Happy Hanukkah

Today marks the first night of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights that reminds us of the power of hope and the resilience of the Jewish community. Wishing you all a celebration filled with peace, light, and courage during what might feel like dark and scary times. 🕎✨

If leaders across the world don’t speak out unequivocally against the evils of antisemitism, I fear history will repeat itself.

Antisemitism has become normalized, accepted, and even celebrated on the far right and the far left to a degree I’ve never seen in my lifetime, seeping into our schools, our governments, and our homes.

The antisemitic terror attack on a peaceful crowd of Jews celebrating the first night of Hanukkah in Australia is horrific, heartbreaking, and totally predictable.
