So passes the greatest living actor (in my opinion). Robert Duvall was never anything but authentic in every role. So many of his great performances (Gus McRae in Lonesome Dove, Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies, The Apostle EF in The Apostle) were family favourites. May he rest in peace.

And one day, under his tutelage, those skaters shall kill Superman

Robert McGinnis had an incredible sense of design, which made him perfectly suited for film posters--but there's an oddness to the expressions of his non-theatrical subjects. Not so with Elvgren. My fave stuff is the tamer, Coca-Cola cowboys and baseball players, but it's all so good.

Looking at old paintings by the great commercial illustrators (Buell, Moran, Petty, Sundblom, Ballantyne, etc ) and I think what sets Elvgren apart, and why his profile remains so large isn't necessarily the skill with paint, or the poses--it's how beautiful his faces are.

I shot a man in Reno for not wishing me a Happy Honda Days

My wife handed me a clean towel and asked me to “put it in its place.” So, I looked at it and said, “Don’t forget that you’re only a towel,” and I was reminded yet again of just how lucky this woman was to be married to me.

Every now and then you gotta blow up your life and then figure out how to make a new one.

In hindsight, it was a mistake to bring my family to Murder Island

Our artist group was permitted to create pieces reflecting the Advent story. They are on display in Common Ground at Circle Drive Alliance Church through Christmas. Since it has stayed pretty quiet, I hope those at Circle will stop by and take in the work the artists put so much care into.

This is so absurdly funny. I love it.
