Behind-the-Scenes at a Museum You've Never Been To But you should!

A fun interview with the executive director of this amazing, tiny museum at the edge of Sequoia National Park. I so appreciate her time to share with us! Please check it out and give her a bit of love!

Where were year a year ago today? I was at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. An amazing museum with lots of stories to tell. Paintings, furnishings, textiles, and more. And of course the courtyard is spectacular!

Good for you for finding a way to be connected to museums! I'm a huge believer in local history museums. Small museums tell stories that the big museums - much as I love them - skip over. In fact, one of my upcoming essays on Substack is an interview with the E.D. of a small museum in California.

Good suggestion! Local history museums share such interesting stories!

I’ve not been but I’ve heard it’s very interesting. And has been through some β€œinteresting” times. :) I need to add it to my list.

Beautiful blue #glass #beads from the late #BronzeAge.

Ploughed up by a farmer in Denmark in 1885, analysis shows the beads were made in Mesopotamia, pointing to long-distance trade in luxury goods some 3,000 years ago.

Susan M. Ward on Substack A renaissance woman! Mary Vaux Walcott (1860-1940) began painting when she was eight. She studied mineralogy and glaciers under her father's tutelage. She was also a mountain climber and photographer....

Love her delicacy! Love her colors!

Imagine you've walked into this painting by Winslow Homer. What do you see? What do you hear? What textures do you feel? What do you smell? What can you taste? You've just created a moment of respite. Take a breath. Now slide back into your day.

Anni Albers was the first textile designer to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1949. She was at the Bauhaus School until the Nazis closed it. She & her husband, Josef Albers, came to teach at Black Mountain College in North Carolina.

What do you see historically? And artistically? Emotionally? We tend to glance briefly at life and art. I advocate slow looking. Studies show that examining art improves our wellbeing.
