It is. Because you have choices. You can find community, you can find other options, and you can fight for change. I go to protests, I volunteer with organizations. These are options I, and people in the UK, wouldn't have in Russia. There's still room to move here, we can make change. Russia can't.

I am from one of the worst states in the US for trans people, I understand the struggle, but it is still not the same as what Russia does to trans people. You can't have an opinion, you can't transition no matter the age, you are likely killed there

I don't think it's acceptable and I think it weakens the argument. So what you're saying is probably false.

It's disrespectful to LGBT people from places where they don't even have hate crime laws, where pride or pro lgbt organizations are unlawful, to compare this, however awful it is, to that. It weakens the argument, and it's just wrong.

Metaphorically, yes, but we have to acknowledge that it IS different to what happens in places like Russia.

Okay that's a huge exaggeration. Russia kills LGBT people and forces conversion therapy as the standard. You can't even say pro LGBT things without being in trouble with the law.
