Last two kind firings lined up my workbench. My glaze experiments did not work but everything else turned out good. Now I just have to sand. All. Of. It. 😫

It worked for me on porcelain slip, probably because I didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to work lmao. I used coffee as the diffusion liquid.

I use tape to get clean glaze lines around rims and handles. It also serves as a spout to pour excess glaze back into the bucket.

That’s what I was thinking too. Scammer is using the photoshopped pic that makes him look almost normal.

The bottom one is nice looking and actually more vibrant than I need so I’m going to blend it down and hopefully find a concentration that looks good and doesn’t pinhole.

Continuing the glaze experiments: here are the two new bases on the left with added stain and zircopax on the right. Sadly both still pinhole.

The top one I am concerned that the extra cloudiness is un-melted alumina hydrate which means it’s chemistry is not what it should be so it’s out.

Three black porcelain garlic roasters are drying on a metal shelf. Each garlic roaster resembles a lava lamp with the main conical section as the lid which rests in a gallery at rim of the base. The base is a cylinder which flares out at the top to accept the lid.

Trying out a new garlic roaster shape. This one is more angular in keeping with the rest of my work, but pays homage to my original design.

I throw this in 3 pieces: the base, the main body of the lid, and the top handle.

Continuing the glaze tests, these are two alternate bases that I will try to use with the red encapsulated stain from my previous experiment. These are reformulated for lower LOI and potentially higher movement to help with the pinholing from the stain.

I accidentally read them in reverse order and had he opposite reaction: “Why is <character> so mean?! … oh that’s why”

All set up in Cincinnati / East Walnut Hills for my first show of the year!

As a trophy I think 2 screams “first place” but as a piece of art I think 3 is the one I would most want to have.

Sometimes I wonder if my style is too one-note but I’m the kind of person who listens to the same song for a month and having that come through in my pottery feels natural.

Don’t cats, open inside!

I read the first one and was like “haha classic Pitchbot” then I realized it was real and remembered that satire died in 2016.

That <I can flip this and then you start to do it and then you’re like “no I can’t”> motion is sooo relatable

Two roughly thrown cups one with a white porcelain and one with black porcelain both glazed on their interiors. The glaze appears pink-ish on the white cup and purple-ish on the black cup.

New glaze experiment. I want this one to be a bit darker and more vibrant, and I am still chasing a bubbling/pinholing issue, but it’s getting close. This is the same glaze on both pieces so I can see what it looks like on light and dark clay.

I love trimming marbled pieces because removing the layer of blurry slip to reveal the crisp pattern underneath is incredibly satisfying. Like unwrapping a present.

Nice throwing session last night making more marbled shot glasses. Despite their small size (only 5oz of clay) I throw these individually because I’m terrible at throwing off the hump. The marbling will be more striking once the outer slip is trimmed off tomorrow.
