I had to “renew” a covid module mandated by aus dpt of health back in 2023 and they’d literally not changed it all since I’d done it back in 2020. They hadn’t even bothered to take out the slides on the failed covid safe app that failed to launch back in 2020 🙃

Both. A lot of them never bothered with research anyway and just parrot whatever official health guidelines are, which are often woefully behind on the science

This is an incredibly irresponsible way to frame this without mentioning that the studies focused on OVERexposure to fluoride at levels far greater than in regulated drinking water

“We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words.”

According to the Virgin New Adventures novel Lungbarrow, Susan is the granddaughter of The Other (3rd founder of gallifrey) who was (sort of) reincarnated as the Doctor, and Susan was like ‘hey im your granddaughter from your previous life’ and the Doctor just rolls with it

And yet the sound mixing in a lot of modern TV/film is done in a way that a lot of people need subtitles to actually understand said dialogue. What a stupid time to be alive.

Scientists at RAND warn that H5N1 bird flu poses increasing risks in the U.S., with human cases of unknown origin and widespread animal transmission.

They stress the urgent need for nationwide measures to prevent a potential mutation enabling human-to-human transmission.

Plus the act of compressing the chest changes the pressure inside it, drawing air in and out in the process anyway. Obvs not as much as mouth to mouth but it’s still something

Would recommend checking out the Bernice Summerfield books and audios. She’s a time travelling archaeologist and they actually explore that aspect of the character a lot more than River, who lbr is a Benny expy

“Medieval” as if millions of people don’t currently live with and die of TB every single year bc rich western countries and greedy corporations don’t bother with TB eradication outside the west

Engels on 'Social Murder'
When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another, such injury that death results, we call that deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call this deed murder.
But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death, one which is quite as much a death by violence as that by the sword or the bullet; when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live - forces them ... to remain in such conditions until that death ensues which is the inevitable consequence - knows that these thousands of victims must perish, and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual ...
Engels, The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845 [1967]), p. 126 (Panther Press)

The idea of “social murder” is super useful, and we need to get comfortable using it. Engels is the best, man - reading him feels like finally acknowledging the obvious reality everyone wants you to ignore

Any particular reason that the bronze edition doesn't have the extra audio interviews/bonus tracks even though other DL only stories have them? Kind of unfair to those of us who aren't able to purchase physical copies for various reasons (e.g. obscene shipping prices to Australia etc)

I’d argue that several incarnations of the master also fit under here, especially Ainley and Dhawan. Also possibly weeping angels since they feed of their victims’ potential?

In unadjusted analyses, the mean weekly ratio between hospital-onset and community-onset infections increased from 2.9% prior to Omicron dominance to 7.6% (95% CI, 6.0%-9.1%) during Omicron dominance. After universal masking and testing ended, it increased to 15.5% (95% CI, 13.6%-17.4%), then fell to 8.0% (95% CI, 5.0%-11.0%) following resumption of masking among health care workers. Under the adjusted Poisson model (Figure), cessation of universal masking and testing was associated with a 25% increase in hospital-onset respiratory viral infections compared with the preceding Omicron-dominant period (rate ratio [RR], 1.25; 95% CI, 1.02-1.53), and resumption of masking among staff was associated with a 33% decrease in hospital-onset respiratory viral infections (RR, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.52-0.85).

This paper is interesting for a few reasons. It shows that mask mandates in healthcare protect patients from infections, and removing mask mandates in healthcare harms patients.

A facility without a mask mandate is making a *deliberate choice* known to harm patients.

Hell, then there’s internalised bigotry where marginalised people are bigoted towards themselves and those like them. This is esp true in the disabled community bc disability is very large umbrella and ableism is ingrained in us from birth
