I’m sorry they’ve taken the joy out of swimming. That sucks so much. It feels like no matter what hobby you choose here you are required/pressured to do it at a professional level (lessons, equipment, etc) and can’t just do something for the fun of it. 🫂

just found out the “im just ken” line in barbie got translated in korean as:

나는 괜찮아 (i’m kenchana)

it’s like saying im kenough but in korean im DYINGGGGG

I don’t think the author was ~wrong in general, but idk…I think maybe polling the audience or asking normal people was necessary here?

So to me the “feminist” label isn’t what prevented people from seeing it…but just the lack of clear promotion and marketing exactly what the intent was.

If you’re not watching Incel YouTube channels or in forums you wouldn’t know it was a “horrible feminist movie” here.

But most women I know thought it was a movie for their daughters, too girly, like other Barbie movies on Netflix.

Other younger women have gone with their boyfriends and during the middle of the movie the BF would walk out leaving behind their GF who was surprised/shocked at his reaction.

Now maybe it’s a top down media silence thing, but unless you’re terminally online you won’t know about the “feminist” controversy. In fact I think if that was the wider label it would have been MORE popular here and gotten bigger numbers in the box office.

I get that feminism gets clicks, especially in Korea, but I disagree that it’s the reason the Barbie movie “flopped” here.

They are not wrong about attitudes towards feminism but it’s not a direct causation imo

What did I do to help my executive disfunction in trying to pack to move? I absolutely threw everything in a pile and just indescriminently started tossing stuff. My ex's knee brace post surgery? No, lizard brain you don't need it "just in case you hurt your knee". It has been tossed.

I officially have 27 days left in Korea...25 days left in the town I've lived in since I landed...I have a lot to do but am feeling executive order stuff is overwhelming...I'm about to just put everything in a big pile in the middle of the floor an just dealing with things that way.
