Oh, huh, thanks. I figured it was, like, college sports or something (that's usually the answer when I don't understand what people are talking about).

I hate to be that person who needs internet shit explained to them, and usually I can figure things out if I scroll far enough, but I need to know what this orange and blue meme is that is filling up my timeline.

Elections in democracies determine who administers the government; they do not alter whom the government is for. Under any administration, Republican or Democratic, the United States government exists to serve the people of the United States, regardless of their partisan affiliation. Besides, Americans are not as easily divided as Trump might think. Millions of Republican voters live in New York, just as millions of Democrats live in Texas. He cannot tell whom he is punishing by glancing at an electoral map. But even if he could, Trump’s acts of extortion have no place in a democracy. They belong in a protection racket: If you support Trump, you are protected; if you do not, you are vulnerable. If you donate enough cash to Trump, you may receive favorable treatment, including immunity from the law. If you oppose Trump, you may be prosecuted.

This is not how a representative government works. It is how the Mafia works.

This is not how a representative government works. It is how the Mafia works.

Went back to the history of the Sicilian Mafia to illustrate something obvious but worth stating explicitly: The Trump administration behaves like an organized crime syndicate running a protection racket, not a representative government www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

If nothing else, the Trump administration is doing wonders to highlight the importance of jury trials.

Every time Brett Kavanaugh asks a question during oral argument, I’m reminded of the dumbest guy in my law school section who in every single lecture would raise his hand to talk because the professor, for some godforsaken reason, decided to make class participation part of our grades

It's Honest to Speak Ill of the Dead The George H.W. Bush hagiography is about more than showing good manners. It's about choosing what becomes part of history, and what doesn't.

Here is something I wrote in 2018 about the obituaries for George H.W. Bush, and I think it is also relevant today

Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

the way Trump and his administration keep going on livestreams and tv to laugh about this, I can’t really compare it to anything political that comes to mind, only thing that comes to mind rn is a serial killer who writes letter taunting family of their victim.

Hi!!!!!!! Anyway, I hope we can agree that whenever the time comes, it happens in public, and he shits himself, and he lives just long enough to be made aware that photographs of him shitting himself have been seen by every person on earth. (I may have thought about this too much.)

23.10.2025 20:55 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes. But I waver back and forth between hoping he keels over immediately (in the most embarrassing way possible, obviously, and the sooner the better, to at least partially mitigate the damage), and hoping he stays alive to see whatever consequences are available and to see it all torn down.

Why Trump Expects the Justice Department to Cut Him a Quarter-Billion-Dollar Check What Trump’s Justice Department loyalists understand is that the law is a tool they can manipulate to give their boss what he wants.

Trump's (probably correct) belief that his Justice Department will give him a quarter-billion dollars in public resources is the product of a Justice Department controlled by Trump loyalists who understand their jobs to be "using the law to do whatever the boss wants"
