This study was led by Verena Heidrich and inspired by discussions within and financed by the Collaborative Research Center "Human Differentiation" (@sortingpeople.bsky.social ).

In contrast, US Black participants showed only little differentiation between target races with even a slight tendency for greater ingroup categorization. This aligns with the view that marginalized groups may allocate greater cognitive resources to individuating members of dominant social groups.

Results for the d parameter of social categorization strength: White participants exhibit markedly greater categorization of Black compared to White target speakers. Black participants show an attenuated pattern i nthe same direction.

Result from our registered Report suggest that minority and majority members do not lump the respective Outgroup and individuate the Ingroup (a cross-race effect) symmetrically. Specifically, White US American showed an greater categorization of Black than White targets in a Who-Said-What Paradigm.

Our findings only partially supported this hypothesis, revealing a category of authoritarian, non-spiritual conspiracy adherents (approximately 6% of the samples), while spiritual conspiracy believers (about 3%) also displayed significant levels of authoritarianism. Paper: doi.org/10.1111/pops...
